REVIEW

delicates

december month

Lately, no look has been complete without lace when it comes to lingerie! Ever since Isabel Marant released her very dainty but subtle SS14 collection, I have found myself extremely inspired by  the scallop laced triangle bras and muted soft palette of pastel, softened colours.

I came across Lovaine store whilst browsing on instagram and was instantly intrigued by the intricate jewellery and really beautiful accessories. It was literally the next day when she released these delicates on her online store so i ordered the black one straight away, there was a coral, sea spray kind of shade and a crimson one also to choose from so i was spoilt for choice really! Lovaine Store was kind enough to actually send me what she said was a little sneak preview for her SS14 collection but it was by no means a little something! She had popped in my order another triangle bra from her new range (the cream one in the photo) at no extra charge which i am so so thankful for! So so stunning i love it just as much as the black one i originally ordered. The packaging was wrapped exquisitely and there was also a handwritten note in the parcel so it felt very warming to receive, much like the feeling of opening a gift from a friend or relative not at all like ordering from a high street store! The bras themselves are so soft, the lace detailing is very pretty  and most importantly they are still really very comfortable as the quality has not been lost. I cant wait to order from Lovaine's again, 100% would recommend! Lovely service.

Lots of love,

HAUL/REVIEW

woolly winter garment

december month

Tis the season! However, it is never quite Christmas in my household until my birthday has passed (that sounds so selfish oh dear), which happened to fall last week. For my sixteenth i received lots of lovely written cards and gorgeous bits and bobs from friends and family! As well as gift cards and getting a little bit extra pocket money, me being Harriet obviously decided to spend my money WISELY on some bits in preparation for the upcoming winter months...

Over the past few years I've found it really hard to find a coat that is subtle and minimal although has a slight edge. Something that isn't too bland but also doesn't have too much going on i guess is kind of the point I'm trying to make. In my eyes there's nothing worse than buying something just because there hasn't been anything other that's caught your eye in other words, you're just buying for the sake of buying... yes, it sounds completely ridiculous but it happens to me all the time and i can guarantee in 99% of these scenarios, i never even end up wearing or using the item anyway! I think this is why this coat from River Island stood out a mile from what other high street stores have in. I've been contemplating whether to jump on the Pretty In Pink bandwagon for these past few months, well ever since Cara D was featured in Vogue wearing Simone Rochas AW13 beautiful blushing pink coat, just looking
back through those few glossy pages i knew i could not resist the pink.
After trying on some of the fluffy/ bobbley textured ones in Topshop and
them becoming more and more popular, I suppose i lost interest in them.
 Due to me being
freakishly pale, the shade of pink completely washed me out and made me look
superhuman. That's one of the reasons i love this River Island light purple
boyfriend coat, I know what you're thinking, it isn't pink but i like to
think of it as putting my own little twist on the trend! I adore how over sized and loose fitting the coat feels on and not only does it look amazing, its 100% wool which in my books is amazing value for its reasonable price so I'm hoping its going to keep me super warm!

Have a very Merry Christmas!

New clothes + good school grades + positive feedback = a happy Harriet!

SOURCE: MY OWN

For those who read my blog know I'm still at school currently working towards next years GCSE's  in June/July and even my English Language in November which is scarily almost less than a month away. With coursework piling up, keeping on top of it all is not challenging but also very draining when there is so many other things you would rather do. However, coursework does find itself at the top of my priority list so I often find myself under extreme pressure leaving me grumpy and stressed.

Due to all this weight on my shoulders, I think its important to treat myself for doing a little extra revision or keeping on top grades, yes, I could just go out and buy these clothes with my own money for the sake of a new wardrobe, although buying the clothes but for instead to treat myself, feels much more rewarding and it encourages me to try hard and keep working hard. I honestly have no idea if that makes sense but i swear deep in the cell of my brain there is a method to my madness.

These items in the photos underneath i purchased from Uniqlo and Zara. I first discovered Uniqlo at the beginning of the summer holidays after my grandma had come back from a shopping trip in London and she brought me back a few bits and pieces. One of those being the lime green blazer. I'd first pointed the blazer out in a magazine but after discovering it was out of stock online I kind of accepted the fact I probably wasn't going to get my hands on it. How wrong was I?! Now I utterly adore it! Such a statement piece and it looks great with the striped top underneath (Zara basics). I tend to wear it with Topshop's black Joni Jeans with either my docs or bucked boots, the colour is a really shocking bold limy shade so it adds a pop to an outfit and makes quite a simple, basic outfit look a bit more dressed up and interesting. I also think it would look great with a black below the knee strait skirt or with a suede accessory. Its a fantastic item to add to your wardrobe.

My most recent purchase is the textured, fluffy boyfriend coat  from Uniqlo. Just wow. I don't think I've ever been this obsessed and over the moon with a coat. I love textures and layering and I think A/W is the best time of the year to learn how to layer and create dimensions and shapes within outfits because its slightly chillier therefore you can really experiment more with these kind of pieces. Even if you aren't comfortable with layering such bold coloured clothing, just try it out with a fluffy cardigan over leather and denim. Textures are definitely a key trend this autumn winter so if you aren't sure id 100% recommend giving it a go! I really think this coat is going to look great with jeans, a denim pinafore, tartan, baby doll dresses and even layered over the top of my striped top, lime blazer with Joni's and Topshop boots... I cannot wait to try it out!

Another successful haul

ILLUSTRATION #1

illustration #1

october month

So I first began fashion illustrating a couple of months ago, probably back in March/June time after visiting now one of my favourite places in the world... Venice! Of course, me, Harriet, being totally obsessed with fashion and design, I chose to create a textile final piece which could give me the ability to try out something I'd never done before so I gave myself the challenge of designing, creating and machining a dress. I will do a post on my dress soon but for the time being I don't want to write too much about it as it is yet to be completed!

Obviously I've had to learn from the very beginning how to sketch models and drawing the right body proportions. It's really quite strange because there's a lot more to fashion illustrating than what meets the eye. This is probably one of the most creative aspects I enjoyed about design work. Ever since I've taken it on as a kind of hobby plus its something to do when I have a moment for example, if I'm travelling etc. I  also purchased a very cute little notepad with a fine liner pen that clips onto it from Paperchase. Whenever I'm out and about, I just carry the two in my bag so if any ideas for a sketch do spring to mind I'm able to jot it down. Anyway, the purpose of this post was to show you a short video that I uploaded to instagram which is an illustration of a tartan number from Junya Watanabe's AW13/14 collection (see here) I drew this morning. I know its a bit rough but it only took around 10-15 minutes. Hope you enjoy!

SS14 PARIS FASHION WEEK

An anticipated favourite for any season, Chanel's SS14 collection was nothing shy of perfection! I wont say I'm impressed with Mr. Lagerfelds designs because i never would expect anything less than perfection from him. This collection almost reminded me of neat little packs of watercolours, becoming blurred and interwoven within the iconic tweeds. An army of beauties, led by Cara D made their way down the catwalk wearing only the finest of garments from the designerThe Polly Magoo inspired hairdos, so chic...i must also comment on the bluntness of the cut... oh and the gorgeous over sized pearl accessories.. eau so 30's!!!

Absolutely love it.

SS14 LONDON FASHION WEEK

alex wang ss14

london fashion week

september month

My love affair with Alexander Wang began probably when i saw his  SS12 collection on the runway, i was about thirteen, i think that's what drew me in to the world of fashion. I have always loved Wang's edge. The simplicity of his pieces and the shapes he creates within his designs. To be honest i am very, very gutted i couldn't have been luckiest enough to be at fashion week (if only).. Wang's SS14 ready to wear collection is just absolutely amazing, he brought street codes, branding and Parental Advisory to the runway. The look is so tailored yet said to be "The official wedding of fashion and hip-hop", a statement which i could not agree with more! The collection has a very sharp edge which is probably what makes me love it; short short tailored skirts, mesh sweaters and pastel shades .. I really think he's hit the nail on the head yet again, not quite what SS13 was.. but still completely fabulous.

INSPIRATION / MONTHLY REVIEW / LIFE UPDATE

INSPIRATION/review

september month

Lately I've been a complete sucker for the kind of grungy 'chuck on anything' inspired look! Its pretty obvious the only way you're going to achieve this look just is not to try too hard, or to not try whatsoever! I really love the bedraggled hair that's all over catwalks at the minute, I don't know there's just something about it I find really raw and organic, its so fab! Key pieces i would pick out are Levi jeans (or look a likes). I would 100% suggest investing in some matte DR Marten eyelets, I bought some around a month ago and honestly I've worn them without fail everyday since. At first they kind of rub the backs of your heels (remember "beauty is pain") but once they've worn in they are so so worth every penny. In the future I would definitely consider buying the same style in the matte green. Another recent purchase of mine has been the Rouge Allure Velvet Luminous Matte Lip Colour by Chanel, honestly one of the most gorgeous matte lipsticks I've ever picked up, its very rare I do spend quite a lot of money on lipsticks because I aren't really a lipstick kind of girl, another thing, being the product is fairly high market it is expensive and being a student I don't really have the money to spend on these kind of products so when I do it is a privilege really. Another thing, I do end up having to re-apply quite often to keep the colour rich, I don't honestly mind this but I wouldn't recommend it to someone who is looking for something that stays on for more than 2/3 hours.

I will be updating this page more and more as i have a bit more time on my hands, i do have school though so its hard making time for blogging!
